The 2019 'Spooners'

Last year, I started the “Wooden Spoon Awards” as an alternative to Love Our Lurkers Day(s). While I appreciate the sentiment behind LOL-Day, I have a different take on non-participation, to the degree that many of you know I tried VERY HARD to go private with this blog, only to have my sincere efforts thwarted by Blogger glitches that didn’t allow several key participants, who were invited in, to accept the invitation. So lurkers reading this are doing so only by the grace of Blogger’s technical incompetence.

Lurkers remind me of little kids who go to someone’s house for dinner, eat, play, and have fun, but  who need their parents to remind them to acknowledge the hosts of whatever home they are in. “Say ‘hello/goodbye/thank you’ to the nice people, Junior.”.

My belief is that ‘lurkers’ have all year to participate, and do so in correspondence to the posts actually meant to prompt a reaction. It doesn’t have to be praise or agreement…..just pertinent and relatively civil commentary. Colorful is fine. OFF-colorful is fine too. Witty is even better. There are plenty of topics posted here on Collected Submissions….from many arenas and perspectives, and to not have ANY of it be enough for a reaction…..and yet still be enough to warrant more visiting, bewilders me.

But rather than dwell on those who need a special day to be cajoled to do what others do pretty consistently, let’s now focus on those gracious folks and reward them personally for their loyalty, participation, thoughts, wishes, thanks, wit, humor, and to be very blunt: FRIENDSHIP!  Many a time, I have considered just shutting it all down, and I know others have done it and others are considering it. Sometimes just  the right comment at the right time can change that whole mood. So to say, 'it's just a comment. How important is it?' doesn't fit with how I view them. So without further ado, I present the winners of the 2019 WOODEN SPOON AWARD:

Merry, Dan, Mr. Bill, archedone, Joe, Sissy Snow, QBuzz, Glen(more), ZM, Crimson Kid, Tomy, Domnhall II,  Downunder Don, Lurker48, Lea, Fondles, Hermione, Julie, smuccatelli, Hortic, Franco, Observer, justaguy, Cagedlion, lawyer, Jhackov, Red, bobmski, ….of course, my spank-buddy Nickki, and my very special Monster, Ana……..    and yes, even Jack, (who should maybe get a special mention for also having the most posts deleted LOL)

(I tried to be very thorough in compiling this list but I apologize if I left anyone out who has posted more than just once. If I did, send me a note and I'll add you right away.)

My sincerest congratulations to everyone mentioned on winning a “Spooner”! And thank you all so much for participating and making Collected Submissions more than just a blog, but a place friends can go without judgement to have a kinky…..or even a regular…..conversation.

And now you may all celebrate and put those wooden spoons to good use!

  1. Thank you, I've never won such an award before! I'm ordinarily a man of few, but carefully chosen, words. I was painfully shy as a child, and have never really gotten past it, despite a successful career as a physician.
By the way, I used to think of you as a weird and grouchy old man, but, but in a recent post you said you were approaching 60 Years old. I've got a dozen years on you. You're a weird and grouchy, but interesting, young man!

Hey, I'll accept "weird, grouchy", and whatever relative age one wishes to assign.......but your first statement is NOT true. You won one last year, AND commented about it. (your age is showing ;-) but congratulations anyway!) If you want to see, check out "What evil lurks" in the November section of 2018.

  3. Hi KD,

To each his own, I say! I'm sorry you aren't joining us for LoL days but I understand your reasoning.

I had a good laugh over your special mention of Jack. I too prune or remove his repetitive comments.

    Hugs,
    Hermione

    1. Hey there, Hermione, and congratulations on your "Spooner". Yes, we do see this differently, but I can say that what I wrote about appreciating your LOL-Days approach is true. I even kind of participated a time or two, but as a I recall, doing so only got me some 'thanks yous' for that one day, and a couple of new visitors who had blogs of their own (Lea & Fondles, are two) but I wouldn't classify them as ever having been true "lurkers". So it didn't seem to work as a way to encourage reluctant lurkers to truly change their spots.....at least not past the one day. But I hope you have success with your LOL campaign and if you know of any good 'success story' via LOL-Day, please share it with me. All the best!

  4. I am happy to see my little spot of recognition on your esteemed list.
It is difficult to keep on with a blog when it appears that nobody is even aware. My blog was not much more than an online diary, but the lack of any interest by others certainly left me with little incentive to do more.
I greatly appreciate the significant efforts you go to in order to make this a very interesting site that I always look forward to.

    1. Your spot is well-deserved, kind sir. I believe the blog as online diary is a valid approach. Sometimes I see aspects of this in that regard, but overall I am trying to do something different. The online diary/daily journal approach can be very rewarding ......personally.......(just as the old-fashioned, handwritten diaries were). But other than sneaky siblings looking to invade privacy, or terrified girls hiding in attics, diaries aren't always 'crowd-pleasers'. But then again, I tend to not see that as their purpose. So don't take the lack of interest personally. (Hell, I didn't even realize you HAD a blog.) If you want amazing traffic, you're best off if you are a young, attractive female who posts wild stories and photos (like Julie. She just ht 10 million views!) But what she is looking for and what I'm looking for are different as well. And with a journal approach.....your intentions may have been different as well?

    2. I once had a blog that was more like an on-line journal, and the problem I experienced was the opposite of the one under discussion. I found it attracted a fair amount of attention, but that made me more divided about what to talk about and what not to regarding me, my wife, our relationship failings, etc. It inhabited my willingness to be totally candid, which had the effect of making it fairly useless as a journal.

  7. Well, I've had a brand-spanking-new wooden spoon specifically designed for swatting rear ends--the inscription on its concave front reads "For Spanking Not Spooning"--for awhile, yet hadn't gotten to feel it on my deserving bare bottom until today, when we had some rather rare privacy and I convinced my darling wife to apply it there forcefully while I was jackknifed over a chair back in the kitchen, after she'd lowered my sweatpants to 'half-mast' position.

Although she's quite vanilla erotically, my spouse clearly did enjoy smacking the oaken spoon's flat back against her twin rounded targets, lecturing me about my tardiness in kitchen duties while 'punctuating' her questions and comments with playful yet stinging spanks.

It was being included as a "Wooden Spoon" recipient here that motivated me to exploit the opportunity to feel an actual wooden spoon landing where it would benefit both Honey and myself the most.

I tend to agree that there's not much sense in celebrating those who are purely lurkers on any interactive blog, unless it's possibly an attempt to get them to move past lurking. (There are 2-3 blogs that I merely check in on once in a while, because of having limited time and energy, still I don't expect any gratitude for doing so.)

The photograph is one that I'm happy to be personally relating to right now, although I gave my lifemate a considerably more wide-open target area, which she happily took full advantage of... --C.K.

    1. Cute slice-of-life, CK......you should work it into a story.

And whether you expect acknowledgement for participating or not....I'm happy to toss some your way.

    2. Well, I meant that I *do* participate here on occasion, so I'm glad to get some recognition for that (especially as I was able to get an actual wooden spoon spousal spanking too), however there are a couple other blogs I just look in on occasionally (although I might comment if I found something compelling to react to), and I don't think that there should be any gratitude expressed if I'm just lurking.

As for a story, I've got numerous serials unfinished, yet maybe a quick one...If I do so, may I refer to this site and the "Wooden Spoon" award...?? --C.K.

  8. Thank you for the mention. I do like different peoples views on spanking. Sorry to say some just come here to get "excited" then leave without a word.

    2. Too late, she purchased a bath brush, longer handle, and have felt it, twice already. She is not going to put up with much from me, over her lap and kicking, squirming, pleading, that bath brush gets my attention. Oh and she does approve of me looking at a couple of blogs, but warned me, if she finds others, and she knows how to find out, I will not be sitting comfortably for a week or so.

  11. Thank you for the unmerited honor! It seems I found your blog just in time to swoop in and grab some glory.

We have had several wooden spoons, but they seem to keep breaking... I guess we are misusing them?

  12. I'm always honoured to be mentioned, given my sporadic attempts at visiting blogs, and more-abset-than-present attendance.

I'm humbled to have been invited to read here.

While the situation in vanilla life isn't fantastic, I do so thank my lucky stars that the un-vanilla side of my life is, at least, smooth sailing, if somewhat diminished in the number of encounters in recent months.

    Happy non-LOL day :)
