Dr. Don

So.........Dr. Don, that stable genius, inspired one of his loyal fold to self-medicate with cholorquine. ( It didn't work out as planned.)

When you get your medical information from an ex-reality TV show host instead of a professional: LINK

I think that if you can listen to this buffoon and trust what he says, you may have been living on borrowed time for a while. On the bright side, we may just have our top contenders for the 2020 Darwin Awards. ( I wonder how many Darwin Award contenders were found wearing MAGA hats? )

On the other hand, I listened to Trump's news conference the other night and distinctly heard a very clear message: "Hey America, life needs to go on.....maybe not for you....but definitely for me and my portfolio." I couldn't help but think of his rush to put the corona virus behind him and ignore more somber advice while feeling he himself is invulnerable, without recalling Poe's Masque of the Red Death.

    1. Thanks, merry. I have not been to the Poe Museum in Richmond, but I have visited the Poe House in Philadelphia a few times. It was in the Philly residence that he wrote The Black Cat, and if you see the basement, you can easily see where he got the idea from!

  2. I don't read your blog for your political savvy, as you have none. Please stick to what you are good at,(well marginally good at.)

    1. Welcome, me. (Unfortunate name. It must get as confusing as a comedic scene from Abbott & Costello or more recently, Chan & Tucker. And seeing your name on this comment made me think I might be experiencing a bout of self-loathing.)

As for your comment: I have been doing this blog since 2015 and don't recall you ever participating before. As such, your opinion is........well, of little value. However, even if you WERE a regular, I would not base my blogging policy on your opinion. The people who come here and participate do so because they want to. I even have some conservative readers who don't agree with me politically, but who have come to realize we can disagree and still be civil with each other and whose presence here I value. So, I would say that you probably need to manage your blog-reading habits so that they align more with your tastes. (Maybe Fox has a kinky blog? I mean a lot of Fox hosts seem to be perpetually engaged in Trump-focused analingus, and that's pretty kinky.) Collected Submissions has been a multi-faceted blog from its outset and I don't intend to change that.

So, sorry. I'm afraid I can't listen to your advice because even though you are 'me' I am not you. But maybe if you are 'me', then you should take MY advice and open your own mind.

    2. I just cut to the chase in responding to his similar comment on my blog. Fuck off.

    3. Dan: Yeah but where's the fun in that? ;-)

As someone who likes to engage, I am always grateful for inspiration regardless of its origin. ;-)

  3. If only self-isolation meant we didn't have to see or hear Dr. Don, it could be a welcome relief. Let's just hope the crisis is soon at an end.

  4. So, lemme see if I've got this right: Trump mentions some drug and says it is very promising to combat COVID19 and a couple watching that press conference get something with a SIMILAR NAME that's used for CLEANING FISH TANKS and, WITHOUT CONSULTING A DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST, takes some of it (not specified what form it took, i.e., powder, capsules, etc., or what self-prescribed dosage they gave themselves) and one died and one is currently likely to die AND THIS IS TRUMP'S FAULT?
These people are lead candidates for the Darwin Awards for 2020...

    1. No, it's not his fault, but the woman clearly stated that they did this because of listening to him. In my post I said he "inspired" a couple of his flock to try this. I heard his conference. He never said to go out and do this.

My post is a commentary on the type of person who can eschew science in favor of a Trump-hunch. Not everyone can do that. It is almost a religious mindset which is probably why there is so much cross-over between Fundamentalists and Trump supporters.

Trump's liability here is subtle. He demonstrates and advocates an attitude that he knows better than an expert on EVERYTHING. He instills distrust in science and those who know more than him. He appeals to those who feel unable to compete with those who know more. His message is that people should not believe experts. He promotes an appealing notion that the 'regular guy' is better equipped to figure out complex issues than some "elite". His followers love that. It makes them feel in control and empowered when the world seems uncomfortably complex. And, as a result, you have a couple who figures they know better too.

But the Darwin Awards do need candidates, and this mentality will provide plenty.

Huh. Kinda sounds like the self-congratulatory "woke" left who vociferously agree with "scientists" to confirm their beliefs, as long as science DOES confirm them. Of course the fact that "science" (biology, medicine, geneticists, etc) explicitly confirms that there are only TWO sexes and that it is physically impossible to change that condition, no matter how one might insist that they can. I guess many peoples belief in the infallibility of science only goes as far as their own personal beliefs...

On another note, I am a Trump supporter and neither religious or much less a "Fundamentalist". I think you may be conflating people who voted for a man you loathe with people who have religious beliefs that you also loathe. Your language, and those of others in this thread also suggest that you think people who voted for the Bad Orange Man are DUMB. I, for one, resent that...

    1. Let's take this point-by-point:

      >>>>"Kinda sounds like the self-congratulatory "woke" left who vociferously agree with "scientists" to confirm their beliefs, as long as science DOES confirm them."<<<<<

Now who's making broad negative assumptions? I have a BS in Biology and a Masters in Fine Art. I question everything. I call out 'bad science' and I keep my mind open to facts that seem counter-intuitive. Also no one who knows me considers me "woke". I am merely "aware".

      >>>>>> "Of course the fact that "science" (biology, medicine, geneticists, etc) explicitly confirms that there are only TWO sexes and that it is physically impossible to change that condition, no matter how one might insist that they can. I guess many peoples belief in the infallibility of science only goes as far as their own personal beliefs..."<<<<<

I am not sure if this is just misinformed or intentionally anti-transsexual? Two sexes only? What about hermaphroditism? What does a doctor do when they have just delivered a baby exhibiting both male and female genitalia? Also, what does biological gender have to do with sexual identity? Is this just something you don't like? How are these confused people hurting you? I had a friend who changed genders. It is a difficult thing and there are no easy answers. I also have a niece that is going through something similar, but with her, I think it's more cause de celebre than the anguish I saw this other person go through.....both before and after.

      >>>>>"On another note, I am a Trump supporter and neither religious or much less a "Fundamentalist". I think you may be conflating people who voted for a man you loathe with people who have religious beliefs that you also loathe."<<<<

These were my exact words: My post is a commentary on the type of person who can eschew science in favor of a Trump-hunch. Not everyone can do that. It is almost a religious mindset which is probably why there is so much cross-over between Fundamentalists and Trump supporters."

Where in that did I say it was all Trump supporters? I was referring to the type of person who would swallow aquarium cleaner because they heard him talk about it. I don't see you doing something like that. Also....are you saying there is NOT significant cross-over between Trump supporters and religious fundamentalists? regardless of what YOU may be?

      >>>>>>"Your language, and those of others in this thread also suggest that you think people who voted for the Bad Orange Man are DUMB. I, for one, resent that..."<<<<<<

Here's the bad news: I DO think a LOT of people who voted for Trump are indeed dumb. But here's the good news: I ALSO think a lot of people who vote for anyone from any party are also dumb. I just happen to think a lot of people, left, right, & other are not very bright. Whether you fall into that category is not something I know, yet I tend to doubt.

Let me put it this way: I have seen a bumper sticker that says: "Trump 2020-No more bullshit". To me that may just as well say: "Trump 2020....because I am stupid." However, IF I saw a bumper sticker that said: "Trump 2020-Keep taxes low!" I would not make that same assumption. Two Trump supporters, one an idiot, the other, very practical.
