Weird Day

I almost got spanked by Nickki today, who actually came by to do just that. However, even though Rosa was home and approved the visit, she was unaware that her oldest son was home, and even though he was out of the house temporarily, he could return at any moment. I informed Nickki of this and she felt as I did that perhaps a different arrangement would be better, and so instead of today, I will be heading over to her place on Sunday for quite a walloping............not for anything I did, but as proxy for the houseguest she had until recently who drove her crazy. Naturally I will write more on this after it happens.

-----------------------------

But my day also involved finally getting around to getting things going for the upcoming RenFaire which will be in mid-September. As always, there's a lot to do to get ready.

The making of a Medieval castle.

Another nice development was a successful eBay purchase of yet another sword. (you can't have too many swords, ya know. ) I was very happy that the seller accepted my offer without even suggesting further negotiation. So hopefully it will be here soon and I will post pictures when it comes.

So today I began reworking the annual "Quest for the Holy Grail" contest. Each year I have to update the tasks so that it is always new and fresh. Some things we keep almost as expected traditions, but other stuff gets tweaked or changed completely so that the quest is always a new adventure for the participants. What surprised me was how quickly I managed to do this. Only a few details remain, but in one day I pretty much have the 2021 Quest all figured out and even written out.

One feature that will not change is the archery trial where Lady Marta gets to whack some hinder with her custom leather slapper. At this point, it's kind of a tradition and although not everyone in attendance is as kinky as me and Rosa......although Nickki will be there as will Ana......I'm always surprised at how this seemingly kinky twist seems so appealing to vanilla game players. Go figure.

  1. Always nice to have something to look forward to on the weekend.
For me, I wish football season would hurry up and start.

    1. Yes, I like knowing I have this adventure in my near future.....it let's me wrap my head around things.

I don't mind watching a football game now and then, but it's not anything I look forward to, nor can I say that I currently have a team in the way I did back in the 80's.

    1. I guess all you need is one good one, right? As far as broadswords, I have three with one being a falchion. But I also have 2 period rapiers, and two saber-type blades: a Polish Karabela and an Indo-Persian talwar with an authentic grip and replica blade. Then there are two katanas, with one being authentic WWII Japanese. Then there are two genuine antique sabers from around the mid 1800's. There's also a kind of hybrid....a cinquedea....sort of a sword that wants to be a dagger or a dagger that wants to be a sword. LOL

And these are just the swords. There are several other nasty little goodies as well. LOL

      What type is yours?

And thanks about the fair. It's all about the weather at this point. But it is a long way off. (Sept. 11).

    2. Mine is a replica of a Napoleonic era, infantry sword. I got it when I was about 12 years old, after I saw the film Waterloo for the first time.

    3. Very cool. I will probably be posting a piece on my collection this week since the sword came Saturday.

  4. I'm looking forward to the writing and pictures of the spanking and the sword, (hopefully both will be immortalized by both mediums (media?-) although, you mentioned writing with the spanking, and pictures with the sword ;) )

A nerdy, silly question perhaps, but are these swords... um.. functional? Do their maintenance upkeep require sharpening like a knife would for example? I don't know why I'm being fascinated with this, but I am!

And thank you for the post.

    1. Yes I'll portray each in both. ;-)

Good question. Most swords are decorative and made to look good on a wall and nothing else. They are usually made from stainless steel, can be sharp, but often are not, but would break if used in a battle. Some swords are made like the originals, out of carbon steel with a blend of flexibility and hardness, so they can be actually used. All but one of mine are the latter.....BUT...because I use them for the RenFaire (though rarely if ever in battle, even though I could) I do not sharpen them for safety reasons.....but again....technically I could and they would indeed be as deadly as their inspirations from from centuries ago. They do need to be kept clean though since they will rust.....though I have had some pitting on some of mine and rather than it upsetting me, I found that a little imperfection made them look more like antiques than replicas.

  5. I'd be interested in seeing your swords -- do you have posts about them somewhere on your blog? I don't collect weaponry, but I *do* collect. (Ruby red depression glass, cookie jars, books...) Other people's collections always pique my interest.

And I've never been to a renfaire. I'm really happy my local fairs are happening this summer though (think: 4-H) and am looking forward to going to one next weekend.

    1. I've posted about the RenFaire and a while back about some leather goods I made for it. But I don't think I've done a thorough expose on my collection. So.....I think when the new one comes I might just do some shots of my collection.

Our friend "Mr. Glass" (of the recent post of the same name) collects Depression Glass. I am therefore familiar with the subject. I have some rose pieces and some green ones, but I wouldn't call it a collection, more like table accents.

A backyard Faire is a lot of work but it sure saves on driving!
